Death On An Industrial Scale
I was watching the news coverage tonight, a man operating a large front-end loader, dumping bucket after bucket of bodies into open pit graves. Every hour the death toll climbs. Ten thousand, twenty, thirty, fourty, fifty....
The numbers seem unreal, unfathomable. I watch the news with the same detachment that I watched the old black and white news reals of Aushwitz and Dakau. What do you do, except feel helpless? What do you say, except "why"?
They call this a natural disaster. Doesn't seem natural for so many to die all at once.
