Would I Vote For Him? *
See here's the thing. I'm a liberal partisan hack. So I'm not supposed to like any Republicans. And as soon as they announce they may run for president, I'm supposed to join the rest of the pack and start attacking. This is the part of the political process that makes me most uncomfortable. Make no mistake, both sides do it. One of my closest dearest blogging buddies has had an anti-Hillary flyer on her blog for at least the last year. It's what we do. We're partisans.
There is no denying Rudy Guiliani has some things going for him. He at least seems like a good leader. We all saw him in the days after 9/11. Plus he's not a crazy religious nut. I don't buy the whole McCain is a maverick shtick any more. McCain came to Memphis earlier this year during an early straw poll for the GOP in '08. He did nothing but carry the water for Bush on the war. This after his savage treatment by the Bush campaign during the 2000 Republican primary in South Carolina in which push pollers suggested McCain fathered an illigitimate black child.
We'll have to wait and see if Guiliani tries to position himself as more of a conservative in the next two years. The extremist still control the GOP as of right now. So the chances of Guiliani getting the nomination are still pretty slim. But it's early yet. Would I vote for him? Well, let me put it this way: he damn sure can't do any worse than the current president.
* I do reserve the right to attack Guiliani in the future.
